Daily Calorie Intake Percentile Calculator
Compare reported daily energy intake with observed NHANES 2015–2018 usual-intake percentiles for the appropriate adult age and sex group.
National Academies — Dietary Reference Intakes for Energy (2023)
Supplemental Appendix X, Table X-1
Table X-1 reports usual daily energy-intake percentiles from NHANES 2015–2018 by sex and age. Humanlytic interpolates only between the published 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, and 95th percentile anchors and does not assume a normal distribution.
What this calculator measures
Compare reported daily energy intake with observed NHANES 2015–2018 usual-intake percentiles for the appropriate adult age and sex group. The comparison uses the reference population and evidence identified on this page.
How to interpret your result
A percentile describes the approximate percentage of the stated reference population with a lower value. When a source supports only categories, medians, or averages, Humanlytic shows that broader comparison instead of inventing an exact percentile.
How this works
Evidence quality
Direct published benchmarks
Method
Humanlytic selects the NHANES 2015–2018 Table X-1 row for the entered adult age and sex, then linearly interpolates only between the published 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, and 95th usual-intake anchors. Values outside those anchors receive a tail classification rather than an extrapolated percentile.
Data source
National Academies — Dietary Reference Intakes for Energy (2023), Supplemental Appendix X, Table X-1
Limitations
Humanlytic interpolates only between Table X-1’s published 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, and 95th percentile anchors. Values outside the central published range receive only a below-5th or above-95th classification. Reported intake is not a recommended calorie requirement and dietary recall is subject to reporting error.
